Your Voice and Language Matters! 1. Remembering Our Primogenitors

Hello everyone!

Greetings!

I hope you had read the prologue for the series. If you haven't, then I suggest you read it first and come back here!

In prologue, I have stated an example for cuneiform writing. But if we dug more deeper in to "how language and writing evolved", I guess we have walk down through our history lane to meet our progenitors, Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals and their spectacular cave paintings during Upper Paleolithic Period or most commonly know as "stone age". I can sense your eagerness to see our ancestors. Here is an image.

Fig. 1: The human lineage (Source: Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc.). Reading image left to right, the above mentioned ancestors comes under the Homo neanderthalensis where Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals most possibly co-existed at one period of time - Upper Paleolithic Period (The stone age).

Here are some neanderthalensis cave painting for your eyes!

If you look into this picture, you can find the paintings of a few men and some animals figure similar to elephant. Maybe they were fighting in a big war like our great kings did. But who knows except them (Fig. 2a).

These hands in this picture are the prints of left hands of our ancestors according to archaeologists. Why are they so specific about their left hands? Isn't curious? Okay, then we have to move that research and its story to another day (Fig. 2b).

FYI: BP indicates Before Present (BP) years is the time scale used in archaeology, geology, and other scientific disciplines to specify when events occurred prior to the origin of practical radiocarbon dating in the 1950s. Because the "present" time changes, standard practice is to use 1 January 1950 as the commencement date (epoch) of the age scale. (Source: Wikipedia)

Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals made cave paintings which are still being found around some corners of the world. The first stages of writing were started from there even before the Sumerian's cuneiform writing.
