Veena was origin in India.Veena comprises a family of chordophone instruments from the Indian subcontinent.The classification of venna is string instruments.The many regional designs have different names such as the Rudra veena,the sarswati veena,the vichitra veena and others. Ancient musical instruments evolved into many variations such as lutes, zithers and arched harps.


The Sanskrit word veena in ancient and medieval Indian literature is a generic term for plucked string musical instruments.

It is mentioned in the Rigveda,samveda and other Vedic literature.
